Valve No. 43

Valve No. 43
Description: A rare glimpse into one of Toronto's oldest buildings dating back to 1873. I decided to take advatage of the nice weather today, sunny and 20 degrees, so I took a drive to a couple of my favorite sites. Went back to the Old Central Prison Chapel and started talking to one of the workers in charge of cleaning up the interior. Basicly exposing the original brick, removing drywall, nothing major. After a few minutes chatting about the history of the building, future plans, and yadayada, I was in. It was quick and without a tripod so only a couple shots survived. No access to the 2nd or 3rd floor anymore, only access is by the ladders the workers use. The stairs from the ground floor have been removed due to them being unsafe.

Not much was inside, some nice textures, peeling paint, brick layers, nice windows, a door or two but this sign seemed significant. I didnt know it at the time but when i got home I checked the John Inglis Map from WW2 and realised what I had found.

The sign reads...

Valve No. 43 Controls Buildings 14, 16 and 25.

All these building were part of or built after the destruction of the Central Prison. This Chapel was Building No. 14 used by Inglis, entitled Shipping and Recieving. The other buildings were right next to it to the north and north east side. Building No. 16 was both Storage and Metal Stores, Building 25 was titled Sand Blast.
