| Description: |
The exterior of these buildings at Pier 70 are full of character and texture. This is the face of the previous building I posted.
The oldest remaining steel building at Pier 70, it was probably originally constructed by Pacific Rolling Mills, the first westcoast iron and steel mill, but was rebuilt into a larger, more modern building by Risdon Iron. It is corrugated iron on steel frame, steel columns, with a cement and wood floor. Building 21 is the last remaining building from the Pacific Rolling Mills/Risdon Iron/U.S. Steel period of significance, and it has lost many of its WWII-era neighbors. Each gable has a wide roof monitor. The building is clad with corrugated iron, and glazed with double hung wood and horizontal steel sash windows. |
